About the Event

SoBEIT is a working codename for a project to bring together a community of people working in the Smart Building space here in Atlanta. It stands for Society for Built Environment Intelligence & Technology, but we can work on the name. Here are some discussion topics for the first meeting.

Who

Starting Point: Atlanta-based owners, integrators, designers, engineers, architects, real-estate professionals, vendors and anybody else involved in smart building and smart environment construction and analytics.

Discussion Item: Who should be invited? Who are we missing?

Existential Item: Who are we? SoBEIT or does somebody (please) have a better name?

What

Starting Point: A recurring event where members and guests can connect and discuss emerging practices, technologies, case studies, and thoughts on how to best use technology and data to enhance the user experience. Or just have a beer! Whatever.

Discussion Item: What would you look for in a regular meetup? Do you lean more towards an organized IBCon local chapter with events and demos or more of a casual networking meetup? Or Both?

When

Maybe: Happy hour time frame Meetings held once a quarter increasing to monthly with growing momentum.

Discussion Item: Is after work/happy hour a workable time for everybody? Should breakfasts or lunches be considered? Quarterly? Monthly? Maybe big quarterly meeting with smaller meetups in between?

Where

Maybe: Geographically, Midtown and/or near MARTA stations and parking to facilitate as many people as possible. Environmentally, do you prefer a restaurant/bar/brewery casual space for networking or prefer a smart building/conference space/innovation center?

Discussion Item: Where works best for you?

Why

Maybe: Because there aren’t many of us or many opportunities to connect, commiserate, high-five each other and grow. Also because this stuff is harder than it looks and shared experiences can help us work smarter, leaving us with all this extra time to meet up over this proverbial punch bowl.

Discussion Item: Why are you here?
